Our UK Summer Camp for Scouts and Explorers will be held at Great Tower Scout Activity Centre from

Saturday 20 July 2019 to Saturday 27 July 2019.

Close to the shore of Lake Windermere in the heart of the Lake District National Park, Great Tower Scout Activity Centre is an ideal base for exploring this famous area. Set in 250 acres, the centre offers both sizeable woodland to explore as well as natural rocky crags for climbing.

The Centre offers a wide range of both land and water based activities led by fully qualified instructors at greatly reduced cost. In addition all activities normally available in summer in the Lake District will be available, many of which we can organise free of charge. We have taken our lead from the young people who are attending in designing the programme.

We intend to travel by minibus and cars, departing Bickerton at 12:00 on Saturday 20 July and arriving at the Centre late afternoon. On 27 July we will depart at about 11:00 (once everywhere has been cleaned and handed back) and be back at Bickerton at about 15:00.

We will be based at the Cartmel Lodge, a modern chalet type building on the Great Tower site. There will be an opportunity for those who wish to do so to sleep in tents if, for instance, they need a few nights camping to qualify for a Chief Scout or Queen's Scout Award.

All Explorers and Scouts in Year 7 or above are eligible to attend. The list of attendees is available by clicking the link below.

The trip will be run in strict accordance with Scout Association safety and child safeguarding rules. Great Tower provides a safe environment. It is run by fully qualified staff and all activities will be run by qualified instructors.

The cost of the camp, including accommodation, food, activities and transport, will be:

Full Camp £375
DofE Gold Practice Expedition then stay £325
DofE Gold Practice Exoedition only £40

Note that those undertaking the DofE Gold Expedition must provide and cook their own food for the duration of the expedition, and will be accommodated in 2 person tents in accordance with DofE rules.

A deposit of £50 is required to book a place and the remainder will be due in in 6 monthly installments commencing in January 2019.

Our aim has been to organise those activities which the young people attending said they would like to do. Click here to see the programme.
