1st Sandstone Scouts & Wildfire Explorers
Chester District will once again be running Paddle Sport activities on the River Dee at Chester from Easter to October 2019, including Wednesday Drop-In sessions and two 6 week Paddlepower Passport courses.
There are a range of boats and supporting equipment held at the Riverside Centre in Queens Park. The Centre has male and female changing facilities and is located on the banks of the River Dee with a dedicated launch ramp.
Scouts have a regular booking of the centre on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 pm to about 9:00 pm (depending on available daylight). It may be possible to arrange another evening depending on availability.
Within the Scout rules the River Dee is graded B1 above the weir. Chester weir gives access to an ideal white water introduction and is subject to separate rules. Below the weir the River remains B1 but tidal knowledge is required.
We particularly recommend the 6 week Paddle Power Passport courses for those Scouts and Explorers who wish to obtain a nationally recognised starter qualification, and the General Paddling (Drop In) sessions for those who have the Paddle Power Passport and wish to improve their skills under the guidance of a qualified instructor. Further details are below.
